The Peruvian Gait

The Peruvian Paso Horse has two desirable gaits: the paso llano and the sobreandando. Both gaits are lateral four-beat gaits, but the paso llano is an even four-beat gait, while the sobreandando has a longer hesitation between the landing of the diagonal hooves, causing an appearance of that more like a pace.

The paso llano is the prize gait of the Peruvian Paso. It is the smoothest out of any gait of any breed. The paso llano is directly between a pace and a trot. The sobreandando is the faster of the two gaits, traveling between ten and fifiteen miles per hour. A trotting horse has to canter to keep up with the sobreandando gait.
